The Meeting

"The Wandering Harlequin" was born in 1997 in order to meet the increasing demand by young actors from all over the world for a period of work in the Commedia dell’Arte of the Scuola Sperimentale dell’Attore and in particular in the continuing research of the actress Claudia Contin and the director Ferruccio Merisi. To reaffirm  the “open” and progressive nature of these researches, "The Wandering Harlequin” offers every year, along with the workshop on the Commedia dell’Arte, a pertinent monograph that is both  stimulating and surprising.
Besides the workshops, the meeting offers a popular programme of performances and special events on the same subject, dedicated to the non-specialized audience. The philosophy of the Wandering Harlequin is to work with patience both for the quality of the actor and for that of the spectator.
The themes of the various editions are linked to each other in an ideal exploration or "wandering" that somehow makes them organic and resonant.

"The Wandering Harlequin" is a training project for both actors and spectators. The two parallel parts of the course, which are increasingly necessary to each other, offer new and original opportunities for discovery and study, creating new ways of experiencing the passion and the culture of the theatre, making possible a series of objective evaluations. These aspects refer to the artistic quality, the choice of "linguaggio", the level of current relevance and importance of the themes and the dramaturgies. "The Wandering Harlequin" is a voyage of research centred on the actor's art, for the public and with the public.
